Meet the family of Taekwondo fighters from Bolton
A FAMILY of Taekwondo champions needs help securing funding for their mixed martial arts club.
Jason Morrison runs Bolton Dragons in Halliwell with his wife Sharon and son Lewis Morrison and all five of their children are involved in Taekwondo and other martial arts.
Sessions see children as young as four starting out with bursaries available for a year.
Their oldest, black belt Lewis, is 30 and is a coach after sustaining serious leg injuries in a fight.
Mr Morrison said: âHis legs are getting better now but I do not want him to go back now at his age, I want him to focus on coaching."
Leasha, 28, has lived in Australia for four years and regularly competes. She is a champion in point fighting kickboxing.
Laurey-Jay is 11 and has a silver medal in the World Taekwondo Championships. He also won a scholarship with Westholme School in Blackburn.
Mr Morrison said: âThey interviewed him, and he just told them all about his Taekwondo.â
The dad-of-five would like funding to help the clubâs equipment.
He said: âIn the Millennium we decided to set something up to give back to the community so we could train children in Bolton to represent the town from 2000. Now we want Olympic status for the children to really show how talented they are.â
Even mum Sharon is a US kickboxing champion and Mr Morrison was third in the Taekwondo Championship 2018. Rusty, the youngest aged seven, is WAKO kickboxing British champion.
His dad said: âI thought he would struggle because heâs only seven but heâs quite the opposite with his strong kicks.
âHe won with three stoppages, which means all three matches had to be stopped after a powerful kick from Rusty.â
He then went on to become the Taekwondo Champion at the Yorkshire Open.
Ten-year-old Laycee-May is the youngest daughter and was a bronze medal winner for the Scottish Taekwondo finals.
