Essendon have not been great by any means, but they lead by eight points and give themselves a chance to be in the top eight.

Essendon should be further ahead. Some poor goal kicking and bad decision making in attack have cost them.
Jake Stringer ends the term with a goal from a set shot. 4.4 to 1.4 overall in the third term.
Northâs control on the game has dipped significantly. A lift in pressure has been important for Essendon too.
Win and they are in the eight, depending on what happens in the Eagles v Crows game later today.

North turn it over coming out of defence and Peter Wright is on the end of the kick coming back into the 50.
He converts and he has kicked three for the day. They should be further ahead with all the chances they have had this term, the Bombers.

Lazarro sets up the ball to the goal line and it drops to Xerri, who snaps a goal from on the line.

There were some worrying signs for the Bombers in that first half, but for all it was, they trail by just 10 points in a relatively even contest.
Essendon actually had four more inside 50s than North Melbourne in that half, despite the Roos cutting up the Bombers with their kick-mark game.
Clearances are split at 15-15 and both sides have had their fair share of turnovers at 29 apiece. In a low pressure match, it will be intriguing to see which side increases the heat in the second half.

Essendon pushed for a goal late but North defended their line. Analysis coming ...
It comes against the run of play. Great little turn and pass by Aaron Hall set it up, and Mahoney converted from directly in front.
Two minutes to play in the half and it is NM 40 ESS 29
